Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has strongly condemned the explosion that struck a mosque in the Gamboru Market area of Maiduguri on Wednesday evening during Maghrib prayers.
The governor described the incident as “utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” noting that the attack, suspected to be a suicide bombing, desecrated a sacred place of worship during a time of devotion, especially within the festive period.
Zulum extended his condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the blast.
He urged residents to remain calm while emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance in mosques, churches, markets, and other public spaces to prevent further incidents.
The governor also assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible, adding that security has been intensified across the state.
