EFCC Allows Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello to Leave Without Interrogation

Former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has left the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office in Abuja hours after arriving on Wednesday to respond to an invitation related to an alleged ₦80.2 billion fraud.

This follows months of back-and-forth between the former governor and the EFCC, during which Bello had been declared wanted for failing to appear in court and neglecting earlier invitations by the anti-graft agency.

Bello, accompanied by the current Kogi State governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, arrived at the EFCC headquarters, stating that he was there to clear his name and demonstrate his respect for the rule of law.

However, according to a statement by the Head of Yahaya Bello’s Media Office, Ohiare Michael, the former governor was not interrogated. EFCC officials reportedly asked him to leave without further action.

The statement read, “Earlier today, we reported the voluntary visit of former Governor Yahaya Bello to the EFCC office to honour their invitation. He was not interrogated and was asked to leave without any formal questioning.”

As of the time of this report, the EFCC had not responded to inquiries regarding Bello’s claims.
