Two jailed over N7.65m Mercedes-Benz parts theft in Ondo

Two men, Konkosiya Gombe and Best Amos, have been sentenced to prison for stealing Mercedes-Benz vehicle parts valued at N7.65 million in Akure, Ondo State.
The convicts were prosecuted by the Nigeria Police Force before a Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Akure on two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Folashade Adeyemi, the defendants committed the offences on September 16, 2025, at about 7:30 p.m. in the Owode-Ile area of Akure.
The prosecutor told the court that Gombe and Amos allegedly worked with other suspects, who remained at large, to carry out the theft, an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The court heard that the stolen property included a Mercedes-Benz truck valued at N5m, four wheel shafts worth N300,000, a long propeller valued at N1.5m, a short propeller worth N700,000 and four gear caps valued at N150,000.
The prosecution said the combined value of the stolen items was N7.65 million, adding that the stealing offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code.
After hearing the case, the magistrate found Gombe and Amos guilty of the two counts and sentenced each of them to two years in prison for conspiracy, with an option of N100,000 fine.
On the stealing charge, the court sentenced each convict to three years in prison, with an option of N200,000 fine, bringing the case to a conclusion.
